Skincare myths have been around for a long time. We try so many different methods of skincare. Everyone has different skin types with different skin problems. Some things might work great on your skin and others might give your skin a rash or a reaction. But, that does not mean that it is bad for every skin.
This is how skincare myths are formed…
We tend to label the ingredient as bad or never to be used without knowing that it can help some other type of skin. So today I will share some common skincare myths and debunk them.
However, You need to know your skin type and the ingredients you are allergic to before trying out every remedy. Every blogger (including me) writes from their own experiences and skin types. So make sure you know your skin by doing a patch test before blaming the internet for any reaction it might cause. ðŸ¤
Skincare Myths:
Here are some very common skincare myths that are going on for so long.
Myth#1: Don’t Use Baking Soda On Your Skin
I have seen a lot of skincare bloggers talking about how baking soda should never be used in face masks. The truth is that baking soda is a very gentle ingredient. Baking soda can be harsh on the skin if used in high concentrations or if left on the skin for too long. It can cause dryness, irritation, and redness.
However, when used in a dilute solution or as a face mask, baking soda can be beneficial for the skin as it can help to remove dead skin cells, unclog pores, and reduce inflammation. It’s always recommended to test a small area of your skin before using it, and if you have sensitive skin, it’s best to avoid using it on your face.
Baking soda works wonders especially in cleaning out blackheads. Just don’t use it very often or leave it on for longer than 15 minutes. Because…
“Excess of anything is bad”
Myth#2: Expensive Skincare Products Work Better
The price of any skincare product does not always define its effectiveness. The quality and quantity of the ingredients matters. And your skin type also defines how well the product is going to work. It’s important to read the ingredients and reviews before purchasing any product.
Myth#3: Sunscreen Is Only For Sunny Days
This myth can ruin your skin health. Sunscreen should be worn daily, regardless of the weather, to protect the skin from harmful UV rays and free radicals. In fact, If you are not wearing sunscreen on a daily basis then your skincare routine is not complete. You will not get the full benefits out of the skincare products you are using.
Myth#4: Scrubbing Will Reduce Blackheads
This myth is not entirely wrong. Yes, Scrubbing will help you in getting rid of blackheads faster. But, excess scrubbing especially using physical exfoliators can damage your skin permanently.
A better way to remove blackheads is by using chemical exfoliators like glycolic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid etc…

Not using a moisturizer for oily skin can actually increase oil production. Oily skin is actually dehydrated skin. More oil is produced by the skin to cover the skin’s need for hydration. Oily skin needs the right type of moisturizer. If you use oil-based moisturizer then it can increase oil production on your face.

Myth#6: Squeezing Pimple Will Make It Go Faster
Well, the urge to squeeze a pimple is real. But it is very harmful to our skin health. squeezing a pimple will damage the sensitive skin nerves. This can lead to scarring. Squeezing pimples can lead to further inflammation and redness. It’s best to leave them alone and use a spot treatment. like salicylic acid.
Myth#7: Our Pores Can Open And Shut
No, they can’t. Our skin has tiny openings on it which help our skin to breathe. These micro openings are called pores. Our pores are actually muscles. Using warm water can help in melting out the gunk in our pores. So when we scrub or use a blackhead strip after using warm water, this is why it helps.
Myth#8: Drinking Lots Of Water Is Enough To Hydrate Skin
Although drinking a good amount of fluids is going to help in skin hydration. But, drinking water should not be the only source of hydration to give to your skin. Applying a topical moisturizer is absolutely essential in keeping your skin hydrated and plump.
Myth#9: Skincare Routine Does Not Matter, Genes Do!
Our genes do play a significant part in how our skin will be and how will we age. But, having a skincare routine that targets our skin concerns makes a massive difference in our skin and how we will age. You can choose to keep your skin healthy for a longer time than your gene suggests.
Or even the opposite. you can choose how early you want your skin to age. So do not underestimate the importance of skincare.

To all the DIY skincare haters…
My dears, DIY skincare is scientifically proven to work great. Certain herbs, fruits, and nuts have anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, anti-aging, and many skin-benefitting properties. These ingredients help soothe and calm the skin.
