anti-aging skincare routine

Today I’ve got a topic that I think pretty much anybody and everybody can have some interest in, and it’s about skincare. What I’m going to reveal to you today is probably the simplest yet most effective skincare regimen that there may well be, and it’s my quick, anti-aging skincare routine.

So when we talk about skincare, it can be very confusing. And there are so many of us, myself included, that have bathrooms that are filled with half-empty tubes of lotions and potions and creams. And we buy this cream that says it’s better than Botox, or that it removes wrinkles in less than a week.

We use half of it and say, just doesn’t work. So all of us really have been through that. We’ve all bought these types of products.

We’ve been kind of duped into these promises and have found that they don’t really live up to the expectations.

Anti-Aging Skincare Routine:

I’m going to reveal today, the simplest anti-aging skincare routine.

Anti-aging skincare routine

If you’re a person who is very busy and you don’t like to slather seven creams on in the morning and six on at night, then this is for you.

So what do you do? Well, first of all, you look at morning and evening. We do have to have something that you do in the morning and something that you do in the evening.

You can’t just take care of your skin once a day, unfortunately.

Morning (AM) Anti-Aging Skincare Routine:

So in the morning, what do you start with?

1- Cleanse Your Skin:

Well, you start by cleansing your skin. Pretty simple. What’s important with cleansing your skin is that there are a lot of different types of cleansers, and each one needs to be targeted to your type of skin.

if you have dry skin, then a milkier or moisturizing cleanser can be better for you. One that’s more hydrating, that doesn’t remove as much of the oils from your skin.

If you have oily skin, then a foaming or a gel cleanser can work better. Most people like foaming cleansers. It’s kind of more what you think a traditional cleanser is. But if you’ve got dry skin, then that may actually not be good for you.

it’s very important not to use bar soap. I know a lot of people who wash their faces with it. The problem with bar soap is it has surfactants and those surfactants will cling to your skin and will really dry your skin out. So use a cleanser made for your skin.

There are a lot of effective drugstore cleansers that you can buy. You do not need to spend a fortune on cleansers.

2- Apply An Anti-Oxidant:

The second thing is you want to apply an antioxidant. So what is an antioxidant? Well, you’ve probably heard the term before. I use this term a lot in my articles, antioxidants fight free radicals.

Free radicals are these damaging molecules that attack our bodies. And they can come from internal processes of our body, from our metabolism, they can come from pollution in the air, they can come from people smoking cigarettes or hookah around us and they can come from the foods that we eat. If you have a diet that’s filled with processed foods, etc.

And applying an antioxidant to your skin can be very helpful in fighting those free radicals to slow down the aging process. The most popular anti-oxidant is vitamin C.

You can find the vast majority of skincare brands out there have some type of vitamin C product. I highly recommend using them. They will help protect your skin against free radical damage.

Now, the key with vitamin C though, is you want to make sure that it has not been oxidized. Vitamin C and other antioxidants like it can be very unstable and fragile and they can actually lose potency if they become oxidized.

So if you’re going to buy a vitamin C serum or a cream, make sure that it is in a bottle or a tube that does not allow light to get through to penetrate it. Vitamin C should be in a dark glass bottle.

So the idea behind an antioxidant and vitamin C is not so much that’s going to make you look that much younger, but it’s going to help fight off the aging process and damaging free radicals.

3- Apply Moisturizing Sunscreen:

Well, the third step to do in the morning is to apply sunscreen. And I do recommend an SPF of at least 30 because that will block about 97% or more of the sun’s rays. You can combine and say, well, what about a moisturizer? A lot of moisturizers now contain sunscreen in them.

So for the morning anti-aging skincare routine, all you have to do is cleanse your skin, apply the antioxidant serum, and then apply the moisturizer with sunscreen and you’re out.

And that should take you a minute or two, hopefully at the longest.

Night (PM) Anti-Aging Skincare Routine:

So at night, what do you do?

1- Cleanse Again:

Well, you cleanse your skin again…

And this is super important. This is an absolute must and you cannot skin this.

Because all day our skin is producing oil. We’re getting gunk, pollution, and dirt. All of that settles in on our skin.

Plus, if you’re a female and you wear a lot of makeup, that makeup also can clog your pores. So it is super important for you to wash the makeup and the day’s gunk and pollution off of your skin at night.

If you only wash your face once a day, then do it at night. You’ll clear those pores and let your skin rejuvenate in the evening.

2- Apply An Anti-Aging Cream or Serum:

The second step is to apply an antiaging cream.

Well, which one should you buy?

I- Retinol:

The top anti-aging ingredient is Vitamin A or Retinol. The vast majority of skincare lines do have their own retinol product. So use either a retinA if you have access to a doctor who can prescribe it or sell it to you, or a retinol-based cream or serum.

The problem with these creams, however, is that they can be drying. Learn more before using Retinols.

II- Growth Factor Cream:

If you do have dry skin and you’re sensitive to it, then maybe look at a growth factor based cream. The purpose of growth factor creams or serums is to boost collagen production and heal the skin.

If you’ve got dry sensitive skin, then try the growth factor-based product instead of Retinol.

One downside is that growth factors are too expensive.

III- Peptides:

A peptide-based cream would be number three on the list. They go by a lot of different names. Oligopeptides are probably the most common. Peptide is a collagen booster and anti-inflammatory ingredient.

And a lot of skincare companies have these peptides in their less expensive products. So if you go to the drugstore and you find a good antiaging cream, if it doesn’t contain retinol, most likely it contains peptides and that would be number three on my list.

So you cleanse your skin and you apply an anti-aging cream at night and that’s all you actually have to do for your nigh-time anti-aging skincare routine.

3- Moisturize:

Finally, apply a layer of your favourite moisturizer at night. This step seals up all the skincare products you have applied. Moisturizing is also going to keep your skin healthy.

Choose a moisturizer according to your skin type. Or else it won’t be effective. Use a thick and creamy moisturizer for dry skin. And for oily skin, I find a lightweight gel moisturizer works best.

Weekly Anti-Aging Skincare Routine:

Aside for the day and nigh time skincare routine. You need to do one more thing to stay young…

Exfoliate…

You need to exfoliate once a week. If you are above 30 then exfoliate twice a week.

Exfoliating your skin basically gets rid of the upper layer of dead skin cells. What happens as we age is that our skin turns over much more slowly. So when we’re younger, our skin turns over every six to eight weeks.

But as we get older that process slows down and it takes eight weeks, ten weeks, or twelve weeks for the skin to slough off. And we get this buildup of dead aged skin on the surface of our skin. Well, the problem that it creates is that it causes our skin to look drier, to look rougher, to feel rougher.

So exfoliating your skin can get rid of that upper layer of dead skin cells and it actually will send a cellular signal to the deeper layers of your skin to actually cause it to exfoliate more quickly.

So there are a couple of ways to exfoliate.

  • You can use chemical exfoliators. AHAs, BHAs or PHAs. Learn more about them before using them.
  • You can use Clarisonic brushes.
  • Lastly, you can use mild physical exfoliators i.e. scrubs. I personally do not recommend store-bought physical exfoliators but they might work for some skin types.

You can make your own types of scrubs using either baking soda, cornstarch etc. I will share a few DIY scrubs soon so stay tuned…

For those people who have aged skin, if you haven’t been taking your care of your skin, you could literally look five years younger within just a couple of months, sometimes even just a few weeks because you get that skin exfoliating, you get rid of that upper layer of dead skin. You start clearing up some of that damaged skin and you can see a big change very quickly.

To Conclude:

  • So just to recap, in the morning you want to cleanse, you want to apply an antioxidant and apply moisturizer+sunscreen.
  • At night you cleanse and apply an antiaging cream and exfoliate once or twice a week.
  • Make sure you are not neglecting your neck area.
  • And that’s all you got to do. You do that and you’re going to be way ahead of everybody else. You don’t have to worry about all these other types of steps that overwhelm you.
