multi-masking

It has been a while since the trend of multi-masking took some hype. In this post, I am sharing what multi-masking is and how to properly do it according to your skin type and condition.

What Is Multi-Masking?

Multi-masking is as simple as it sounds. we apply multiple face masks on our skin at the same time. This does not mean that we are layering masks on top of each other.

Multi-masking is done to target different skin situations in one go. This means that we do not have to waste time applying different masks and washing each one. We apply multiple face masks to target our skin issues. The most basic way to do multi-masking is to apply 2 types of masks. one on the T-zone and the other on the rest of the face.

The number of masks applied will be equal to the number of problems you need to target.

How To Prep The Skin For Multi-masking:

Preparing the skin for applying masks can drastically increase the effectiveness of each mask that you will apply after. These are a few simple steps to keep in mind.

1- Cleanse:

Wash your face with lukewarm water with your daily cleanser. If you wear makeup then remove your makeup with micellar water first and do a double cleanse.

2- Exfoliate:

Slightly exfoliating your skin before applying any type of face mask is going to increase the effectiveness of that face mask. It is because the cleaner our face is, the more the face mask can do it’s job.

3- Correct Order:

Each face mask has a different leave-on time mentioned on it. Apply the mask that needs to be on the longest first, and then move on to the masks that need less time on the face.

For example, if you are applying a clay mask on the T-zone and a gel mask on the rest of the face then start by applying the clay mask first as its application time is around 20 mins.

How To Apply Multi-masks According To Your Skin Type:

There is no right or wrong way to apply the masks when you are multi-masking. You can multi-mask using 2 masks all the way to 6 masks. It all depends on what skin problems are you targeting. You should know the right type of masks to use and the right areas to apply those masks. Each skin type is different so I will only cover a few common types of skin here. You will get the basic idea of multi-masking to start with. Then once you know how simple it is, you can create your own ways that work best for you.

1- Oily T-Zone & Dry/Flaky Skin Combo:

This is one of the most common combination of skin for which multi-masking was invented. All you need is 2 face masks. One that can target oily skin and the second one to target dry skin. The application will be very simple, as shown below:

I suggest you use any type of clay mask for oily skin (the T-zone) with some sort of detoxifying element to it like Caudalie Instant Detox Mask:

Use a hydrating mask for the dry skin and around the eye areas. This is the one I like Clarins SOS Hydra Refreshing Hydration Mask . This makes the skin refreshed and plumped up.

2- Acne-Prone & Normal Skin Combo:

Another common type of skin that can benefit from multi-masking is Acne-prone skin. Most masks that are made for acne-prone skin contain salicylic acids that can be drying for the skin areas that do not have acne.

So, to solve this problem we need to use a combination of 2 masks. You can apply face masks for acne to the exact areas where you have acne and breakouts, and any other kind of nourishing mask to the rest of your face.

The best clay mask for acne-prone skin is the bentonite clay mask or The Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay mask This has best results when mixed with Apple Cider Vinegar to make the mask paste.

3- Aging & Normal Skin Combo:

For aging skin, it is better to use a combination of at least 3 masks. One that provides anti-aging benefits, the second one that provides under-eye protection. and a third one that can provide deep cleansing to the skin.

Under-eye care is very important to target anti-aging. Because our eyes are the first thing to show signs of aging. The application will look something like this:

You can use The Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay mask for deep cleansing.

I don’t have any favorites for anti-aging to share right now, but as soon as I find something that is effective and works for most people, ill share a link to that as well.

To Conclude:

As I mentioned there is no right or wrong when you do multi-masking. Start by applying the masks that you are already using rather than trying new ones. Multi-masking is something that is different for each skin, so do what your skin needs…❤️
