When you have oily skin, the chances are that your skin tends to get greasy during the course of the day, so I’ve come up with some super effective oily skin hacks that will help you keep your skin looking matte and even throughout the day.

Some studies say that approximately 50% of people have oily or combination skin, while the other 50% have dry or normal skin. That makes oily skin a very common skin type that needs to be addressed.

Let’s get right into the hacks…

Oily Skin Hacks:

Mostly, oily skin is also acne-prone skin. Because excess dirt buildup can become the cause of acne, blackheads and other breakouts. These oily skin hacks will also work for acne-prone skin.

Oily Skin Hack #1- Cleanse Your Skin:

Such a common oily skin hack but it is often neglected. Oily skin types reserve special pampering every single day, so you should start your day with a good cleanser.

Invest in a cleanser that suits your skin type. In my experience, gel cleansers work best for oily skin types. Don’t apply it directly on your face and then rub it. First, lather it in your hands and make it foamy. Then apply it on your wet face for cleansing.

Cleansers with green tea, tea tree oil, centella, rice water, and other soothing ingredients are good for oily skin and acne-prone skin.

Oily Skin Hack #2- Use Toners:

If you aren’t already using a toner on your skin, then you’re doing more harm to it than any good. After cleansing your face, toners hold an essential part in your skincare rituals.

So if your skin is oily and it feels stretchy or itchy after washing, you definitely need a toner. The antioxidants present in the toner will prep your skin by hydrating it and balancing out its PH levels. Also, toners are a great way to add new skincare ingredients that target your skin type.

Oily Skin Hack #3- Moisturize:

Moisturizing your skin is an integral part of your everyday routine, especially if you have an oily skin type. Oily skin is dehydrated skin, and it needs more hydration than normal skin. If you skip moisturizing your face and body, your skin will overcompensate for the lack of moisture by producing more oil.

So if you love adding natural ingredients to your everyday skincare routine, you can make a lightweight moisturizer using just two ingredients.

DIY Moisturizer:

  • Take 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel (99-100% natural).
  • 1 tablespoon rose water.
  • Mix them well.
  • Apply it twice a day after using your toner, and massage your face with it.
  • No need to rinse it off.

Aloe vera hydrates oily skin without making it greasy, and rose water will prevent excess oil production and soothe it.

Oily Skin Hack #4 – Ice Cube:

Rubbing an ice cube on your face has several benefits. It can reduce inflammation, help to reduce oil production and reduce the visibility of large pores. Rubbing ice can improve blood circulation, which can help give your skin a healthy glow.

You can use regular ice but if you are creative like me, you can make ice out of the ingredients that suit your skin, like rose water, aloevera gel, milk, oat milk and the list goes on…

The procedure of Icing Your Face:

  • Take an ice cube of your choice 😉 and massage it on your face and neck for about 3 -4 minutes.
  • Now gently massage your face in small circular motions.
  • Rinse your face and you’ll end up with radiant-looking skin with a healthy glow.

Oily Skin Hack #5 – Blotting Paper:

An increase in sebum production tends to make your skin look oily, clogs your pores and leads to breakouts. During the day when you get oily and shiny skin, use blotting paper. You won’t need to wash your face every time it feels greasy.

They are super essential as they help soak up excess oils from the face and mattify it, keeping the oils from clogging your pores. Just tap gently on the oily areas of your face, and you are good to go.

DIY Blotting Paper:

You can make your own blotting sheets. Just cut out parchment paper into smaller size and there you go. This will absorb the excess oil from your face just fine.

Oily Skin Hack #6 – Face Mask:

Face masks are a great way to tackle problems for all skin types. It is also a great oily skin hack. Clay, Green tea, Tea tree oil, rose water, and aloevera are some ingredients that you should add to your face masks to help with oily skin.

If you’re someone who cannot get rid of those bright red pesky pimples, here’s another amazing natural oily skin hack that will help you out.

DIY Face Mask:

  • Take 1 tablespoon of powdered green tea leaves.
  • Moisten them with some hot water.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of a cooling ingredient like aloe vera or rose water and mix well.

Green tea is a powerful antioxidant that reduces puffiness, stubborn acne and acne scars. This mixture will calm down the swollen pimples. And of course, will reduce excess oil production in your skin.

To Conclude:

  • Oily skin needs good cleansing, toning and moisturizing.
  • Know what ingredients suit your skin and keep using them to get the best results.
  • Following these simple everyday hacks will help you reduce the excess oils from your face and body, as well as keep acne at bay.
